At Rivertown Chiropractic we treat carpal tunnel naturally, saving your body from harmful surgery, medication, or annoying braces. Do you have pain, numbness, weakness, or tingling in your hands? Do you do repetitive work such as typing, lifting, or turning? Has your wrist, arm, and hand pain gradually become worse over time and now completely control your life? Does it keep you up all night? We’ve heard this story over, and over, and over again. Now more than ever carpal tunnel is the single most reported work related injury due to the constant repetitive work that we engage in daily. Before we tell you how chiropractic care can cure your carpal tunnel demons, let’s talk about what causes carpal tunnel.

The carpal tunnel is a canal in your wrist where the median nerve passes through. The median nerve is the lifetime to your hand. Without the median nerve, no other major nerves in your hand will be effective.  When the nerve becomes compressed or trapped you will begin having what is diagnosed as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS). So what causes the nerve to be trapped? Well, the canal where the nerve runs is a very small space surrounded by muscles, bones, and other tissues. If you are repetitively using the muscles around the nerve, they often become tight, stiff, and have a hard time relaxing. This tight muscle compresses the nerve, and when the nerve is compressed, it simply doesn’t work. The tight muscles also pull small bones closer together, which again, makes very little space for the nerve to pass safely.  Repetitive work also causes inflammation in the wrist, which causes tissues to expand, also taking up space. A compressed median nerve can present as pain, weakness, numbness, and tingling.

A second way that the nerve becomes inhibited is through poor posture and compression of the nerve starting at the spine! All the nerves in your body branch from the spine. If you have bad posture (from hunching over computer, repetitive bending or lifting, or excessive screen time) your nerves will inevitably become compressed. This can result in carpal tunnel syndrome! The nerve leading to your hand becomes compressed in your spine and as a result you may have horrific numbness, tingling, pain, and weakness.

So what can Rivertown Chiropractic do to help? Lots! There is nothing about any of these scenarios that chiropractic care cannot solve. Our main goal is to relieve pressure from the median nerve. We can create more space for the nerve to pass with manipulation of your wrist, elbow, and spinal joints! By creating increased space, your body will have decreased compression of the nerves and your body will work more efficiently! With efficient work, your body is less likely to flare up which typically would present as inflammation. Though results may not be instantaneous, small victories and relief of pressure to your nerves will result in decreased symptoms. Overtime, our hope is that your carpal tunnel syndrome will be a thing of the past. This is the best way to treat your body. Through chiropractic care your carpal tunnel syndrome can be healed without medication, surgery, or pesky braces.  Choose the healthy way to treat your body with chiropractic care.
